Bone Walker, Faerie Blood

Monday news: print editions, Boosting the Signal posts, and a giveaway!

Now that I’m back from my latest trip to Canada (which went splendidly and the obligatory concert report is on the way), just wanted to get out a quick update on the status of print copies of Faerie Blood and Bone Walker.

I am down to a scant two copies of Faerie Blood, after selling quite a few at Conflikt, and I’ve just sold the latest one today to one of my Kickstarter backers in St. John’s. (HI EMMA!) One of the others is already spoken for for giveaway purposes (more on this in a minute), and that leaves me one that is not currently spoken for.

So if anybody wants that last copy of Faerie Blood, now would be a good time to jump over to the merch page for it on Bandcamp and order it! Because once it’s gone, that’ll be it for a bit until I get my next print run in. Alternately, go to the Buying From Me page for instructions on how to order it from me directly if you don’t want to go through Bandcamp.

***

And speaking of print editions: I have a big ol’ shiny new box of Bone Walker! This is the rest of the first print run, a good number of which will be heading out to Kickstarter backers over the next couple of weeks, as well as other folks who have paid me for a copy (HI OLO). One of these will also be reserved for giveaway purposes, and I’ll be handing out a couple via a Goodreads giveaway as well.

But that’ll leave me a whole bunch of other copies that will be available for purchase, even before my next convention–which’ll be Norwescon. So if you want a print copy of this book, you can order that from Bandcamp too, here. Or, again, go look at the Buying From Me page for other options.

BEHOLD THE SHINY! Who wants one? 😀

Now about that first giveaway I mentioned! Long-time friend and supporter of my work David has asked my and Dara’s permission to do a giveaway of both books and the soundtrack on his blog. That giveaway is in progress right over here, so if you’d like to throw your hat into the ring, click on over there and check out his post! Note that he will also be handing out digital copies of both books as a second prize.

All you have to do is drop him a comment telling him why you’d like to be the winner. Creativity and cleverness count!

He’ll be running this giveaway until March 8th, so you have a bit of time. I’ll be issuing periodic reminders until the giveaway is done! So clickie!

Stand by for further updates re: the Goodreads giveaway I’ll be setting up. AND! One more thing about that new box of books I’ve got–I’ve got a few extras that turned out to be misprints, with slightly screwed up covers. Third Place gave me those as extras since they can’t use them, so I can give them to interested parties as review copies.

So if you’re willing to commit to writing a review of the book on Amazon and/or Goodreads, talk to me and I can set you up with a copy!

I’ll have two, count ’em, two Boosting the Signal posts coming this week so stand by for those on Friday! One will be from fellow Carina author Caitlin Sinead, and another will be from an author that’s new to me, Sharon Black–but who caught my interest querying me about her romantic comedy set at a newspaper. Check back with me on Friday for those posts! And stand by for next week’s Boosting the Signal for another Carina author, T.D. Wilson, and his latest SF release!

More news tomorrow!

Bone Walker, Faerie Blood

Monday morning news: Bone Walker has a release date!

First up, I had a couple of excellent Boosting the Signal posts this past Friday! Cory Dale sent me an excerpt from her new release Demon Fare, and Jake Elliot, fellow member of NIWA, came by to tell me about his “mock-epic” fantasy The Wrong Way Down. Check their posts out if you missed ’em when they went up!

Second, Bone Walker has a release date! AND A COVER! \m/ The ebook edition will be officially releasing on February 3rd! The official Bone Walker page has been updated accordingly! And the cover is now included on the homepage as well!

And as soon as I have a viable test mobi, I will be putting the book up for pre-order on Amazon. Other pre-order links will be following as soon as I can make them.

All hail Dara for her cover work and Kiri Moth for the art!

Third, speaking of Bone Walker‘s march to release, I have already asked current proofreaders to get any noted typos back to me by Wednesday the 14th. Because Dara needs to commence work on the print and PDF versions ASAP in order to maximize our chances of having the print edition ready by Conflikt. So if you’re proofreading and you didn’t already see a request about that, do please get back to me by Wednesday!

On a related note, however, if you’d like to sanity-check ebook formats for me, stand by. As soon as I have a viable test mobi, I will need it tested on any and all available Kindle devices. I personally own a Kindle Fire HDX 7″ and will be using that for testing purposes. But all other types of Kindle will be welcome.

Likewise, I have two Nooks: a Nook HD and one of the new 7″ Samsung Nooks. I also have a Kobo Mini. Both will be used to test. If you have other type of Nook or Kobo device, though, those would be helpful.

AND, any iOS device owners comfortable with using iBooks OR Android device owners comfortable with getting books onto your devices, testing from you would be welcome too. Though tablets will be most useful once we have the PDF ready to test.

Last but not least, don’t forget, Faerie Blood remains on sale for 99 cents to celebrate Bone Walker‘s imminent release! It will remain on sale until the end of February, at which point I’ll bump the price back up. So if you haven’t gotten the ebook of Faerie Blood yet, now would be a REALLY good time. ;D

And if you’re so inclined, do please spread the word about the sale! The sale price applies wherever Faerie Blood‘s ebook edition is sold, and I will honor it for any requests to buy the book directly from me as well!

Faerie Blood

Faerie Blood is BACK ON SALE

Because hey, it’s Christmas, and ALSO because I’m about to be making the hard push to get Bone Walker ready for you all, Faerie Blood is now officially BACK ON SALE for 99 cents!

The sale price should now be active at Amazon, Kobo, B&N, Smashwords, and Google Play, and as soon as iTunes Connect makes itself available again (it’s inaccessible until the 29th), I’ll be changing the price there, too. All buy links for the book are on its official page!

This price will be in effect until the end of February 2015, since it’ll double as a promotion for Bone Walker as well. So spread the word if you’re so inclined, and if you happen to have gotten a shiny ereader as a Christmas present, no time like NOW to put Kendis and Company on it!

Bone Walker, Faerie Blood, Valor of the Healer, Vengeance of the Hunter, Victory of the Hawk

Wednesday news!

Today’s top story: screw Black Friday, we’re releasing the first single from the forthcoming Bone Walker soundtrack NOW! Because we CAN!

Dara’s got her post up about it right over here, in which you can stream the premaster mix of “Something’s Coming” right off of Bandcamp. If you’re inclined, you can buy that single. AND you can preorder the album!

If you backed the Kickstarter, you of course don’t need to actually buy it because we will be sending it to you. But DO spread the word! And check out the previews of the other tracks that’ll be coming!

We’ll be doing the official release for this thing at the next Conflikt in January, along with the release for the actual Bone Walker novel! SO EXCITING. Stand by for more on this as it happens!

As I think I’ve mentioned before, Dara and I are fans of the Doctor Who Podcast, one of the many Doctor-themed podcasts available for your listening pleasure. In addition to reviewing new episodes when they come out, they have extensive knowledge of the Classic-era series as well as the Big Finish audio range, and all of their presenters are just generally fun to listen to.

One of the things we find particularly charming about them is the jingle they wrote for whenever they review a Big Finish release! It goes like this:

Big Finish with Ian! And Michelle from across the Atlantic Ocean!
Ian from UK, and Michelle from the United States!
Reviewing Big Finish, sorting out the wheat from the chaff and nonsense
Saving you money on the ones that are not so good!

It’s insidiously catchy, enough that every time we hear it show up in an episode of the podcast, we start singing along. Hell, THEY’VE even songvirused themselves with it.

So the other night I said to Dara, “I wonder if this thing would work as a round!” And the fun thing about having a spouse with her own music studio? She can FIND OUT.

Behold! Dara’s round edition of the Doctor Who Podcast Big Finish Review Theme!

And while we’re on the topic of things you should signalboost, don’t forget, Faerie Blood is ON SALE for $2.99 until this coming Monday! All the details are right over here!

I will also honor the sale price for anyone who wants to buy the ebook directly from me in the format of their choice!

Last but DEFINITELY not least, Victory of the Hawk is now available for preorder as well AND has shown up on Goodreads. So if you’d like to get in some preorder love on Book 3 of the Rebels of Adalonia trilogy, NOW IS THE TIME! Links are on the Victory of the Hawk page!

And if you haven’t read Valor or Vengeance yet, now would also be a VERY good time to get caught up on those. If you haven’t read anything of my writing at all yet, or if you’ve just read Faerie Blood and aren’t sure whether you’d like my high fantasy, you can even see some shiny samples that’ll let you read up to 10 percent of each book, provided courtesy of Overdrive! The samples are available on the Valor of the Healer and Vengeance of the Hunter pages!

Faerie Blood

Faerie Blood 2.99 Sale!

Just because I can, I’m putting Faerie Blood on sale for $2.99 through December 1st, Cyber Monday!

If you want to buy it from Smashwords, you can use the coupon code EC86P here.

A promotional price has been set on Kobo to put the price at $2.99 (and international equivalents) through December 1st. You can get Faerie Blood from Kobo here.

A promotional price is on Google Play now as well and you can get the book from Google Play here. (They’ve actually put it down to $2.51 since Google Play knocks a bit more off the price in general.)

B&N doesn’t have a mechanism to let me set a promotional price, so I’ve just adjusted the pricing there. You can get Faerie Blood for the Nook here.

A promotional price has been set on iTunes for the book there. Faerie Blood is available on all the iTunes stores I have access to; a full list of iTunes links is available on the book’s official page!

And I can’t set a promotional price for Kindle since I’m not on KDP Select–but I’ve set the price there down to $2.99 as well. All of the various Kindle links for the book are on the book’s official page!

Please feel free to spread the word around about this sale as you like!

Faerie Blood, Valor of the Healer, Vengeance of the Hunter

How to gift my books

And speaking of gifting, let’s talk a bit about how to give any of my books as gifts! Because as you might guess, this is a subject near and dear to my heart. 😀

Faerie Blood’s print edition

I will be happy to mail a copy of Faerie Blood‘s print edition anywhere in North America, either to you or to an address of your choosing, and I will totally sign it as well.

Overseas folks, please be advised that the cost of mailing an individual copy of the book is more than I actually ask for the book, so I’d recommend against that unless you REALLY want to pay the shipping charges. *^_^*;;

Regardless, contact me by email or the various social networks I’m on if you’d like to make arrangements.

All of my ebook editions

Faerie Blood, Valor of the Healer, and Vengeance of the Hunter are all available via the major ebook vendors. So if you want to give any of them as gifts to people, you should go to the ebook vendor of your choice and use its available functionality for giving gifts. (Note: Carina Press’s own site does not have gifting functionality, so if you’d like to give Valor or Vengeance as a gift, you should do so via one of the major ebook vendor sites.)

Instructions for how to gift a book on the Kindle are here.

Instructions on how to gift a book on the Nook are here.

Kobo apparently USED to have the ability to gift ebooks, but doesn’t currently now, given what I’m seeing poking around the site. So if your target gift recipient is a Kobo user, you’re probably going to be best off giving a gift card.

If you want to give one of my books as a gift on the iBooks store, search for that book in iTunes or iBooks, and click on the dropdown arrow next to the price. You should see a menu that includes an option to “Gift this book”.

If you want to give the book as a gift on Google Play, to the best of my knowledge, it can’t be done–you have to give gift credit to the Google Play store via a gift card.

Smashwords has a “Give as a Gift” button on Faerie Blood‘s page here.

ALSO: I can’t hand-sell you my Carina titles, but I can and will hand-sell Faerie Blood as a gift to anyone in electronic form as well as print! I have EPUB, MOBI, and PDF all available, and can even make arrangements to bundle them up onto a gift CD for a recipient if so desired. As with the print edition, talk to me if you’d like to make arrangements.

Valor of the Healer’s audio edition

Don’t forget, either–Valor of the Healer is available in audio as well as ebook, so that’s a potential gift option too!

You should be able to use Amazon’s, Audible’s, or iTunes’s ability to gift audiobooks on any of those platforms.

Questions?

Talk to me! And if you choose to buy any of my stuff as gifts for your loved ones, thank you in advance for your support!

Faerie Blood, Valor of the Healer

Faerie Blood and Valor of the Healer sale update

And now, for some amusing numbers!

I released the current, second edition of Faerie Blood into the wild in June of 2012. Up through May of 2014, I had a total of 335 sales over all for the book. My previous best sales month had been July 2012, pretty much right after I released the book, and January 2013, when I ran a $2.99 sale that got some signalboosting from fellow Carina authors.

Kicking the price down to 99 cents, though, has meant that in June and July of this year so far, I have had a total of 167 sales. A few of those were in early June, before I launched the sale. So it’s more like 160 sales as a direct result of the current low price.

June 2014 is my new record sales month, on the strength of the initial spike once I kicked the price on Faerie Blood down. June scored 97 sales. We’re now eight days into July, and July is well and thoroughly in second place but coming up steadily, with the current tally at 70 sales. At my current rough rate of sales (I’m seeing 2-4 a day coming in right now, mostly from Amazon), it’s reasonable to expect July may pass June.

Overall this means that roughly 33 percent of my current sales numbers are from this sale alone. NEAT.

And if I can get another 160 sales or so before the end of the month, I will DOUBLE the lifetime sales total for the book. If you want to help me make that happen, remember, signalboost! Signalboost! Signalboost!

Amazon sales are certainly welcome but I encourage signalboosting in particular to everywhere else I’m selling the book as well. B&N has clocked in so far with a total of 19 sales, iBooks has 3, Kobo has 5, and Google Play has 8. Smashwords so far is the only place where I’m selling Faerie Blood that hasn’t yet joined this party.

(I would be PARTICULARLY happy if more Kobo sales showed up. Because one, I love that Kobo has partnered up with indie booksellers. Two, they are a Force in Canada and I do love me some Canada. And three, they recently implemented a shopping cart on their site. The lack of a shopping cart on major ebook-selling sites has driven me spare for ages, and now that Kobo finally went and built one, I would love to see people filling it up. Ideally, with my stuff! But with other stuff as well. Reward them for their coding efforts!)

MEANWHILE: I’ve seen only a few confirmed sales of Valor of the Healer showing up as a result of the sale–but as I’ve previously mentioned, those numbers are much harder for me to track. The first wave of any really interesting numbers should be showing up for me by the end of this week! Still, though, the Valor sale needs your love as much as the Faerie Blood one! MORE, even, because it’s not lasting as long! Only 9 days left before Valor returns to its previous price!
