First test copy of Faerie Blood Second Edition!

YOU GUYS! YOU GUYS! We have the first test copy of the Second Edition of Faerie Blood, and OMG, it looks beautiful. Dara and I are slightly dubious about the loss of some of the background color–but other than that, the layout is amazing, Kendis pops right off the cover, and there’s a bar code and ISBN and retail price and everything and HOLY CRAP it looks like a real book. ๐Ÿ˜€

Paul says he really likes the cover even if we’ve lost quite a bit of the background golden hue. Dara’s going to have a conversation with our guy at Third Place about this, and see whether it’s fixable. If it’s not, though, honestly, I will be very happy with this as the shipping version. Stand by for further updates! Hopefully we’ll have a full print run ready to begin shipping out to Kickstarter backers this weekend!

Faerie Blood Second Edition ebooks released to Kickstarter backers!

I’m thrilled to announce that the second edition of Faerie Blood has been released in ebook form (epub, PDF, Mobi, and HTML) to all my Kickstarter backers! Big, big thanks go out not only to the backers in general, but specifically to all backers who helped test the ebook files before their general release, to Dara who did all of the layout for the PDF, and of course to Kiri Moth for providing me such amazing cover art!

Now that the ebook version has been deployed, the next step will be to get the print versions ready to go out. Dara and I will confirm with Third Place that they have the final versions of the interior and cover art PDFs, and then they can start printing us some books! When those are ready, I’ll pick those up and start mailing them out to folks!

And once THAT’S done, then, I’ll start arranging to deploy for general sale! I’ll be arranging with Third Place to sell print copies on consignment, and meanwhile, the ebook editions will go up on the various big ebook-selling sites as soon as I familiarize myself with all the appropriate systems and procedures.

So those of you who didn’t get a chance to support the project but who are perhaps interested in getting hold of a second edition copy of this book–stand by! There will soon be formal opportunities for you to do so!

And meanwhile–y’all may remember that I was hand-selling copies of the Drollerie release of Faerie Blood for five bucks a pop to all interested parties. That offer is now officially voided by the completion of the Second Edition, and the new offer is this: you may buy an ebook copy of the Second Edition from me directly as of NOW, for the same five bucks a pop and in the format of your choice, if you can pay me via PayPal.

I’m EXCITED, you guys! ๐Ÿ˜€ And I’ll be even more to get this thing up for sale on all the formal channels!

Faerie Blood

Faerie Blood Second Edition is imminent!

For those of you who may have missed me yakking about this on the various social networks, or who are not in on the updates I’ve been sending to my Kickstarter backers:

The release of Faerie Blood Second Edition is EXTREMELY NIGH. My belovedest Dara has finished up the print layout, both the interior and the cover, and our contact Vladimir at Third Place Press has acquired a formal ISBN for us and given us a bar code and everything to put on the cover.

Meanwhile, I have Release Candidate 3 versions of the epub, mobi, and HTML files, which are awaiting final signoff from the beta readers who are checking them for any last bugs before I deploy them all to backers! Likewise, the PDF version awaits final signoff before Dara spins off a backers version which will include the same cover graphic the other ebook versions do.

I have issued a deadline to beta readers of Saturday morning, and assuming I don’t get any last-minute bugs that need fixing, I will deploy the ebook editions of Faerie Blood to all Kickstarter backers at that time! The final interior and cover PDFs will also be deployed to Third Place, and hopefully printing will therefore begin next week!

Much gratitude to all my beta readers who’ve gone over the various ebook files and found all the broken accented characters, weirdnesses with styling, and such! Especial huge shoutouts go to backers Ellen and Oliver, for Ellen is a GODDESS of typo discovery, and Oliver appealed to my little QA Engineer’s heart by sending me a bunch of screenshots! (When you’re fixing bugs, ladies and gentlemen, screenshots are beautiful, shiny love. Whether it’s for software, or for ebooks!)

Check out what the RC3 version looks like when I look at it in iBooks on my iPad, y’all!

Who has a Faerie Blood Second Edition cover? THIS GIRL!

YOU GUYS. Look what my Dara made for me! This is going to be the version of the print edition cover for Faerie Blood, as we’ll be flinging over to Third Place Press for printing! Any last tweaks will be for the actual bar code and the listed retail price–the latter being because I’ll be talking to Third Place about whether they can carry print copies in stock in the store, in case any of you lovely people out there want to order it!

(Dara says it’s really, really weird to be resurrecting Low Orbit Publications as a name, too! Which actually existed, way back in the day, when she published her Low Orbit zine!)

Kickstarter rewards update

Today, I spent a great deal of time taking care of various aspects of dealing with Kickstarter rewards to send out to people, so here’s a quick status update on that!

Those of you who supported the project, if you bought in on any reward tier that entitles you to Faerie Blood, you should be getting access to a big ol’ pile of digital versions of the cover art real soon now. Dara’s spinning off a huge assortment of resolutions, to cover not only computers but a variety of mobile devices as well!

Meanwhile, now that we have the confirmed final list of backers, we’re getting all the names into the new edition of Faerie Blood so that Dara can finish up the layout of the print and PDF versions, and I can put together the epub and mobi and any other versions we’re going to spin off.

I will also soon be working on deploying “The Blood of the Land” in digital form to all backers entitled to that, too.

A huge chunk of today went as well to organizing all my backer data and breaking it down by rewards, so that I have a clear list of who all gets what–and specifically, how many print copies I’ll need of both books, how many postcards, and how many posters. I am pleased to report that my original project estimate of about 50 print copies is about right, with some wiggle room for a few extra copies left over. Which will serve as my very first copies I’ll be able to make available to folks who didn’t get in on the Kickstarter in time!

And, I was pleased to be able to send off the first payment for art delivered to Kiri Moth. SO EXCITING. ๐Ÿ˜€ Huge, HUGE thanks go out to all of you out there who’ve made it possible for me to get Kiri to do such gorgeous work!

No actual writing done today–but then, all of this project work needed doing as well, so I consider it a productive day indeed! Tomorrow there will be some Folklife, but there will also be working on Bone Walker!

And we are DONE!

The Kickstarter has concluded, with a grand final tally of $5,010.23 raised by 137 backers, and 125% of the funding goal! I got a lovely little flurry of backers in at the last minute, and backer Andrew in Fort St. John in Canada snuck in in the very final seconds–mad props to Andrew for that timing!

Many, many thanks to all who’ve supported the project, and I’m looking very forward to getting the stories and the soundtrack out to backers! I commend everyone’s attention to Update #31 on the project page, wherein I give a rough schedule of when everything is targeted to go out!

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! And again, mad, mad thanks, love, and hugs to all y’all out there who’ve chimed in with your support and your signal boosts! Each and every one of you are made entirely of awesome! ๐Ÿ˜€

LAST CALL on the Kickstarter, folks!

132 backers! 122% funding! $4,918.23 total raised so far! This is a nice bit of padding above and beyond the soundtrack stretch goal, and every bit of it will make Kendis’ Book Three happen all that much faster.

We are almost to closing time now, people, so if you’ve been waffling about whether to jump in, now’s the time and this is the link! The project expires at 6:01pm EDT tonight, 3:01pm PDT!

Sure would be nice if I could kick up over $5K by closing time! Anybody out there wanna help me make it happen, there’s always room for more–at least until the project runs out! Grab a chair, raise a jar, and help me wind this kitchen party down. ๐Ÿ˜€
