The poll to name my iPhone officially closed last night, and the winner of the poll was Mnemosyne! This means is the winner.

The companion contest is also therefore officially closed, and wins that for the in-character Petalwing portayal.

If you’d like Faerie Blood, please let me know your preferred format. If you’d like a different book, please let me know which one you’re interested in from the shop and I’ll set you up with a Drollerie gift certificate for the correct amount!

Folks, I have decided to hold a companion contest to go along with the poll to name my iPhone! This one will be for everybody who did NOT get a name into the poll. However, what makes it a companion contest is that I want to see supporters for various names campaign for their favorites!

Rules as follows:

1. The stakes are the same: the winner will receive either a copy of Faerie Blood, or, if he or she owns it already, a copy of the book of their choice from the Drollerie Press bookshop.
2. Campaigns should be in the form of drabbles (100 words of prose, for those of you who don’t know that term), LOLpics (with or without cats), filks, rousing campaign speeches, or whatever else comes to mind! Bonus points if you invoke any of my known fandoms*. Extra bonus points if you invoke anything having to do with Faerie Blood, for those of you who have read it already.
3. Campaigns must be for names that are in the actual poll. No fair campaigning for a name that’s not actually in the running!
4. Please post your campaign material in the comments of this post (at angelakorrati.com, if you’re reading this on LJ or anywhere else I mirror to).
5. If you have a name entered into the poll, you are not eligible to participate in this contest. You are however welcome to shamelessly rally your supporters to your cause!
6. This contest will expire along with the poll one week from today on Monday, July 27th.

So get cracking, people, campaign season is ON!

* Good fandoms to invoke: Great Big Sea, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Elfquest, Pern, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Star Wars, Star Trek (TOS), Temeraire, Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, zombies!

I think probably all of y’all who will be voting on it have already done so, but just in case there are any of you who haven’t voted yet, the poll to name my iPhone is still open and will be running until the 27th.

pointed out to me that y’all may find it useful to know my history of naming electronics I’ve owned if that’ll help you decide what to nominate for a naming choice.

I’ve had no formal naming scheme for my personal electronics, across the history of my buying stuff, aside from loose association with one of my fandoms. In my time I’ve owned:

Amiga 500: Elvis
NEC laptop: Aron
Sharp laptop: Garon
Compaq Presario #1: Garon
Compaq Presario #2: Garon
Fujitsu Lifebook: Newstar
MacBook: Winnowill
iPod #1: Allegro
iPod #2: Allegretto
HP iPaq: GIR

Overall themes here: musical fandom (i.e., Elvis, Elvis’ middle name, middle name of Elvis’ stillborn twin brother); Elfquest (Newstar and Winnowill), music (musical terms). Our servers here at the Murkworks are all named after objects in Elfquest (Newmoon, Lodestone, Door), and our media server is also named after an Elfquest character (Kimo). I have a thumb drive named after Fallberry, one of the Preservers I used to play on Two Moons MUSH.

So anything that invokes any of my fandoms is certainly fair game, and Elfquest is certainly one of my longest-running fandoms. Anything invoking MUSH alts I used to play or characters I’m writing now, also fair game, as are appropriate musical terms. I will further add that anything that refers to an assistant-type character, computer, or AI, especially if it’s connected to any of my fandoms, is a Good Idea. 😉
