Shipping edition of Bone Walker cover art!
| May 28, 2013 | Posted by annathepiper under Bone Walker |
For those of you who haven’t already seen me gushing about this on the social networks this morning, I am thrilled to announce at last that Dara, Kiri Moth, and I have decided upon the final Bone Walker cover art! This is the base source file that Dara will be using to create the cover for the book, and which I will also be using to create posters, postcards, and desktop backgrounds for all the folks who supported my Kickstarter last year!
Everybody, and I do mean everybody, who supported the Kickstarter will have a shot at the goodies we’ll be making from this art. And we’re very, VERY close to getting the final edits for the manuscript as well so hopefully sometime this summer we’ll be shipping the actual book!
Bone Walker cover update!

Kiri just shot me a rough draft of the color version of the cover!
General notes, especially for those of you who haven’t read Faerie Blood yet:
- Yes, Elessir is supposed to resemble Elvis. It’s part of his character. Although as he’s on record as telling Kendis, he was here first, and Elvis had the good fortune to resemble him.
- Elessir’s ears are bigger than Kendis’, because he’s full-blooded Unseelie Sidhe, and Kendis is half-human.
- For reasons which will become evident in Bone Walker, Elessir has a smaller magic ‘swirl’ going on on his cover than Kendis did, and he’s also specifically supposed to look lean and a bit wolfish, all of which I communicated to Kiri. I feel she’s capturing these things very well!
- And since I also pointed Kiri at Elfquest for my inspirational source of What Elves Should Look Like, alert observers may see notes of that in both Kendis’ and Elessir’s covers.
Kiri informs me that these colors are rough background colors and will be enhanced as she starts adding in shadings and highlights. I’ve told her to favor blue and black for Elessir, especially with that guitar he’s playing. Very, VERY much looking forward to seeing the final product!

Oh my, this has been a long time coming–but look what Kiri Moth just sent me, you guys! I give you a work in progress glimpse of Elessir a’Natharion, and the forthcoming cover of Bone Walker!
This IS a work in progress, so even before it gets colored it’s going to change–but oh, this is exciting, and I had to share it with you NOW. I can’t wait to see what the final version is going to look like!
Look what just showed up in my inbox, Internets!

Ladies and gentlemen, Kiri (all hail her mighty pens and Photoshop) has sent me the very first glimpse of your favorite bard and mine, Elessir a’Natharion!
He needs some tweaking to strike that exact right balance between ‘a Sidhe version of Elvis’ and ‘all of my mental pictures of what elves should look like is totally influenced by Elfquest‘–but nonetheless, this is a damn fine initial try. Especially with the hair. Elessir is all about the hair!
New cover art for Faerie Blood on the way!

I’ve already noted this on my various social networks, but to note it again here in greater detail: I’m pleased to share with you all that I’m in talks with artist Kiri Moth to do new cover art not for Faerie Blood, but for Bone Walker and Book 3 as well! I very much like her light, airy style, and cannot wait to see what she does with Kendis. Big, big props to
tiggymalvern
We’re at the stage of Kiri doing some preliminary sketches, and when she has some to share with me, I’ll see about posting one so y’all can get an idea of what the future cover for Faerie Blood is going to look like. Stand by for the shiny, all!
Status update re: plans for Bone Walker, and also, questions!
| February 15, 2012 | Posted by annathepiper under Bone Walker |
Wanted to do another post to let you guys know what I’m up to in regards to getting Faerie Blood repubbed, and getting Bone Walker finished up and ready to go out in its wake.
First and foremost–still trying to find out whether the cover artist I’m looking at can do a commission for me for art for Faerie Blood and Bone Walker both. In the event that that doesn’t work out, though, does anyone out there have recommendations for artists you like that might suit? I would prefer people who do drawn or painted art vs. photo manipulation, but I’m willing to consider people with decent photo manipulation skills as well.
Link me up with your recs, people! Bonus points if the people in question have previous experience doing cover art and a prior history of commissions.
Secondly–I’m still planning the Kickstarter idea but I am also strongly considering BookBaby. BookBaby is a sister brand to CD Baby, and from what I’m seeing, they could potentially provide not only the ability to deploy ebooks to all the major ebook vendor sites, but ALSO printed copies. Most importantly, they claim they give 100 percent of sales back to the author. Now, since these are the same people that do CD Baby and I know of several musicians (including my very own beloved spouse) who are happy with that, I’m inclined to look on BookBaby favorably. But does anyone out there have any direct experience with using them, or know people who do? Let me know!
Right now my highest priority is finishing the last round of edits on Lament of the Dove so that I can fling that back at Carina Press, finally. I’m hoping to get that done by February 25th so that I can have it off my queue before Dara and I run off to Canada for a grand four-day weekend of awesomeness! After that, my next priority will be spending as much of March as possible finishing Bone Walker so that I can then get it edited.
More as I know it!
